What I Think About MakerGirl
I ❤️ MAKERGIRL
written by Sara Christine Chojnacki, MakerGirl Board Member and Advocate
When I think of MakerGirl I think of that desired space. I feel not just passionate but emboldened about sharing that space with every single girl, any gender, of any age.
I remember when I was a little girl and I felt nobody understood me. There was constant pressure to “fit in” and be like everyone else. How could that even happen when I was at least 4-6 inches taller than most of the kids my age and I liked things that weren’t considered cool - science, art, technology. I really felt alone.
I always heard ‘it will be different when you are older” but that wasn’t true for me. If I didn’t gain the tools to navigate middle/high school with some kind of confidence, then when I grew up, how was I actually supposed to gain the tools to navigate the workforce, relationships, and really the entire world?
It took a long time for me to find confidence in myself (and a lot of help) to gain those better tools and to learn that being different is actually a significant attribute in innovators and builders of the most sought-after things today.
“I wish I had MakerGirl when I was young.”
I wish I had MakerGirl when I was young. I wish I had a safe space to go and connect with other people like me that was fun and energizing. I wish I had college kids and older girls who took interest in me and could relate - that would have helped open the doors of self-confidence for me sooner.
When I think of MakerGirl I think of that desired space. I feel not just passionate but emboldened about sharing that space with every single girl (any gender) of any age - so that I can get to them sooner - so that I can be the one to say:
You are here because you are worthy. This is your safe space to explore. All is welcome here.
What can I do to help you own your inner power?
How can I help to bring out your inner voice, your higher energy, your unique gifts?
How can I help you cultivate confidence at every level?
Because I know you are the only you there is - and I believe that the world needs more YOU in it.
